Civil engineers generally work in a variety of locations and conditions. It is common for them to split their time between working in an office and working outdoors at construction sites so that they can monitor operations or solve problems onsite. Employment of civil engineers is projected to grow 11 percent from 2016 to 2026, faster than the average for all occupations.
-Under general supervision, develop designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, specification sheets, engineering directives, and other data, according to client specifications;
-Produce engineering plan sets and submit documentation packages while following standard operating procedures; Quality check all work and work of other designers to ensure complete and accurate plans are provided to engineers;
-Design drainage and utilities infrastructure across a wide range of projects, including civils, drainage and utilities;
-Ensure that project design solutions are delivered to the highest standards and meet programme and budgetary constraints;
-Prepare and monitor work programmes to deliver projects to deadlines;
-Develop BIM/Civil3D and other modelling software capability within the team.
-Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from accredited university;
-Registered Professional Engineer or EIT with utilities experience in the design of municipal infrastructure projects in a consultant environment;
-Experience managing civil underground utility projects such as installation of water mains, sanitary and sewer infrastructure, roadwork or related;
-Experience in infrastructure planning, including identifying water and sewer infrastructure needs;
-Ability to design drainage and utilities provision for development, urban regeneration and transportation projects;
-Solid understanding of engineering skills such as geometric design, grading, permitting, coordination with utility companies and the production of utility schemes of accommodation, and roadway drainage design;
-Familiarity with using GIS for spatial analysis and hydraulic modeling is preferred;
-Proficiency in CADD (MicroStation and/or Inroads and AutoCAD Civil 3D), AutoTURN (would be an asset), Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook);
-Experience in the production of plans, specifications, and engineer’s estimates for roadway projects;
-Understanding of engineering principles related to capacity and loading of municipal infrastructure;
-Experience interfacing with local utilities and agencies;
-Knowledge of infrastructure network, utility coordination & processes;
-Team-oriented individual willing to assist with a wide range of projects and work with multiple project managers.
